76th Wine and City Festival under the 700-year-old Linden Tree in the Rheingau
In the heart of Geisenheim stands a linden tree that is over 700 years old. It was already growing when the Archbishops of Mainz ruled the city and the Rheingau began to establish its reputation as a Riesling region. This linden tree gives its name to and is the centerpiece of the Geisenheimer Lindenfest — one of the most traditional folk and wine festivals in the Rheingau.
The Lindenfest always takes place on the third weekend of July, from July 17 to 20 in 2026 — the 76th edition. The town center transforms into four thematically organized areas:
A packed music program runs on two stages throughout the evening: brass band music, blues, funk, folk, pop, and rock — the full spectrum that is well-received in the Rheingau festival calendar.
Special program highlights: On Sunday at 5 PM, the "Hour of Majesties" with the reception of Rheingau wine royalty. On Monday from 4 PM to 6 PM, the "Hour of Homeland" with the awarding of the Golden Linden Leaf to deserving citizens of Geisenheim. On Sundays from 2 PM to 5 PM, the Lindiade — a competition for children.
Geisenheim is not only a wine town but also the location of the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences — Germany's only university specifically for wine, horticulture, and food sciences. The Lindenfest reflects this dual character: traditional and enjoyment-oriented, but with a touch of scientific wine culture.
