Summer Kerwa in the suburb of Bayreuth – club festival on the sports field
Heinersreuth is a municipality in the western suburb of Bayreuth, easily accessible via the A 70 motorway. With around 5,100 inhabitants, Heinersreuth is one of the larger municipalities in the Bayreuth region. Club life is vibrant – sports clubs, the volunteer fire brigade, music groups, and church associations contribute to social life.
The Sportplatzkerwa differs from classic village Kirchweihen in that it takes place not around the church, but on the local sports field. This makes the Kerwa a communal club festival, primarily supported by the local sports club and its helpers. This concept is widespread in Upper Franconia – sports fields offer ample space, infrastructure (clubhouse, sanitary facilities, power supply), and the possibility for a large festival marquee.
The weekend follows a simple, proven structure: Saturday opening with keg tapping ceremony, dance evening with a live band; Sunday morning pint with brass music, communal lunch, family afternoon, and a dance evening to round off the festival. The menu features Upper Franconian sausages, Schäufele (pork shoulder), and dumplings – naturally accompanied by beer from a local Upper Franconian brewery (the Bayreuth region is one of the densest brewery regions in Europe).
Those planning a day trip to the Sportplatzkerwa can easily combine it with a visit to nearby Bayreuth: the Festspielhaus, the Margravial Opera House (UNESCO World Heritage), the Eremitage palace gardens. Or with a hike in the Franconian Switzerland region, the southwestern foothills of which are just a few kilometres away.
The municipality of Heinersreuth invites you to the Sportplatzkerwa on the weekend of July 18th and 19th, 2026. The venue is the local sports field, which will be equipped with a marquee, bar, and catering stands for the festival weekend. The organizers and supporting team are the Heinersreuth sports club and the village community.
The detailed programme will be published by the organizers closer to the date via the municipal website and club channels.
