23rd Edition — Destination Mühlrose in the UNESCO World Heritage Region of Lusatia
Since 2004, the Görlitz district has organized the Sternradfahrt every year at the end of May – a format where cyclists travel from various starting points in a star pattern towards a common destination. In 2026, the 23rd edition will start with ten tours between 10 and 90 kilometers from Görlitz, Rothenburg/O.L., Forst (Lausitz), Hoyerswerda, Zgorzelec, Klein Kölzig, Niesky, Bautzen, and Żary. A new Bambini tour for the youngest participants has been added.
The destination in 2026 is the small Sorbian village of Mühlrose in the municipality of Schleife in the northern Görlitz district. The choice is programmatic: for the first time, the Sternradfahrt will take place in conjunction with the "Heritage of Lusatia" project, focusing on the region's UNESCO World Heritage. The popular circular route will be offered in 2026 as a special route "On the Traces of the Heritage of Lusatia," with augmented reality puzzles and audio stations along the way.
Along all routes, there are lovingly arranged stamp points – facilities, clubs, and cultural sites that invite a break with regional snacks and a cultural insight station. Stamps can be collected on paper passes or via an app; those who reach all stations on a tour will receive an award at the destination.
In Mühlrose, a varied festival program awaits the cyclists with music, Sorbian culture, culinary specialties, and family activities. The festival grounds in the village center offer a stage, a market with regional vendors, and a picnic area – special trains from the EU-funded Interreg cooperation will bring Czech and Polish participants from neighboring regions.
The 2026 edition combines the classic Sternradfahrt with the "Heritage of Lusatia" project: a special route "On the Traces of the Heritage of Lusatia" will lead cyclists to UNESCO World Heritage sites in the region, incorporating augmented reality puzzles and audio stations.
At the destination Mühlrose, a festival program with music, Sorbian culture, regional gastronomy, and family activities awaits the participants. Special trains will bring participants from Poland (Żary, Zgorzelec) and the Czech Republic.
