Dorffest Tschernitz

Village festival in the Lower Lusatian glassmaker homeland

The community of Tschernitz is located in the Spree-Neiße district, about 30 km east of Cottbus, almost directly on the Polish border. Tschernitz is primarily known for its glass industry: since the 19th century, the Tschernitz glassworks was one of the most important employers in the region. Today, the community of just under 1,200 inhabitants has largely retained its village character — the annual Dorffest (village festival) is an expression of this tradition. The 2026 edition will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Format: Village, Stage, Clubs

The Dorffest follows the classic format of Brandenburg summer festivals: a central stage is set up on the village square, with festival tables and beer garden furniture arranged in front of it. The program begins in the late morning with the official opening and runs throughout the day until late at night. Club contributions from the local youth fire brigade, the carnival club, and the sports club shape the stage program in the afternoon; in the evening, a cover band or DJ usually takes over.

Children's and Family Program

For families, the Dorffest offers the usual classics: bouncy castle, face painting, craft station, game stations. The local fire brigade traditionally brings a fire engine to the festival grounds and lets the children try out the hoses. A small raffle organized by the village clubs is included in the admission price — the main prize is usually a weekend stay in a Lower Lusatian guesthouse or a restaurant voucher from the Amt Döbern-Land.

Amt Döbern-Land

Tschernitz is part of the Amt Döbern-Land, a municipal administrative association where several communities in Lower Lusatia cooperate. The Amt's event calendar lists the Tschernitz Dorffest every year in early summer — and it is regularly one of the highlights of regional club life.
