Spätschicht — a young Saar brand

Spätschicht Saar e.V. is a young event collective from Saarland, dedicated to electronic dance music and festival culture since 2018. What began as a small series of indoor events has become a fixture in the Saarland nightlife scene. Today, Spätschicht regularly organizes indoor and open-air events at various locations in Saarland — and the Flower Garden Open Air in Bexbach is one of their biggest highlights.

Bexbach Flower Garden — the unusual festival location

The Bexbach Flower Garden is one of Saarland's most famous park landscapes. Laid out in 1959 as a varietal garden for succulent and cactus collections, it now presents various themed gardens, a small zoo, and the annual Flower Garden Festival on 4 hectares, and is generally a popular destination for family outings. That this place becomes an open-air stage for electronic music once a year is an unusual but very fitting combination — the park with its old trees, meadows, and unique plant backdrop offers an atmosphere that cannot be created in an industrial area.

DJ Set, Light Show, Atmosphere

The musical concept focuses on electronic dance music — from House and Techno to Deep House, Tech House, Disco, and electronic Pop. Several DJs play in rotation, often featuring regional newcomers and well-known guest DJs from the Rhine-Main or Stuttgart regions. A professional light show, mobile stage, and good sound system ensure festival quality in a compact format.

More than just a club event

Spätschicht consciously emphasizes a festival character, not a club atmosphere. Picnic blankets, seating, food trucks, a bar area, and an open, friendly vibe make the event attractive even for people who don't want to dance all night. It's not family-friendly — the minimum age and late-night concept clearly target young adult audiences — but it's also not purely a club event.

Bexbach in the Saarpfalz district

Bexbach is a town in the Saarpfalz district, in eastern Saarland, right on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate. With its two nicknames 'Flower Town' (due to the Flower Garden) and 'Höcherberg Town' (due to its local mountain), it has a strong identity. That the young Spätschicht finds its festival location here is also a statement: Electronic culture doesn't have to be confined to big cities.
