Soul in the Heart of Berlin

When the weather cooperates in June and tourists, Berliners, and commuters mingle under the TV Tower, Alexanderplatz becomes an open-air concert hall for eleven days. The Soulfestival Alexanderplatz runs from June 12th to 23rd, 2026 — daily from 11 AM to 10 PM, with free entry, on a stage right in the heart of the capital. The organizer is Hauptstadtkultur GmbH, which has been curating several themed open-air festivals in Berlin for years.

The Whole Soul Family

The musical concept is clear: Soul in all its branches — from the great classics of the 60s and 70s through Funk, R&B, and Gospel to contemporary styles and current Berlin soul bands. On stage, you'll find Berlin local heroes like the One Voice Gospel Choir and the Berlin Blues Band, international acts like Josiah Bruce, Benny Fiedler, Kirk Smith, Tiffany Kemp, or Black Tie Entertainment, as well as jazz combos and cover bands keeping the great songbook of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and Marvin Gaye alive.

More Than Just a Stage

A small festival area is created around the stage: street food stalls with international specialties, an accompanying exhibition on the history of Soul — from Memphis and Detroit to Germany — and seating for the long days between lunch breaks and after work. The concept works so well precisely because it doesn't force consumption: those who just pass by can enjoy the music for free, while those who stay longer can eat and drink on-site.

Alexanderplatz as an Open-Air Living Room

Alexanderplatz in the Mitte district is one of the busiest squares in Europe — hundreds of thousands of people pass through it daily. For Hauptstadtkultur GmbH, this is a stroke of luck: instead of actively attracting an audience, the festival naturally flows through the crowd. The Soul concerts are one of the most accessible forms of events in Berlin — no one needs tickets, reservations, or prior knowledge. Anyone who feels like it can stop and listen. Those who don't have time can catch 20 seconds of Funk as they pass by and take the feeling with them to the S-Bahn station.

Soulfestival Alexanderplatz — edition 2026

The Soulfestival Alexanderplatz 2026 runs from June 12th to 23rd — daily from 11 AM to 10 PM live Soul, Funk, and R&B right in the heart of Alexanderplatz. Free entry. Featuring: One Voice Gospel Choir, Berlin Blues Band, Josiah Bruce, Benny Fiedler, Kirk Smith, Tiffany Kemp, Black Tie Entertainment, Jazz Combo Berlin, and many more. Street food area and accompanying exhibition on the history of Soul.

The 2026 edition once again brings eleven days of open-air concerts to the heart of Berlin. On the central Alexanderplatz in the Mitte district, rotating Soul, Funk, and R&B bands play from 11 AM to 10 PM. The spectrum ranges from classic covers (James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye) to Gospel and Blues formats, as well as contemporary Berlin soul acts. Entry is continuously free, complemented by a street food area and a small accompanying exhibition on the history of Soul.
