Animal Shelter Opens Its Doors

The Tierschutz Ahrensburg-Großhansdorf e.V., founded in 1964, operates the animal shelter on Waldreiterweg in Großhansdorf — the facility cares for stray and surrendered animals from around nine municipalities in the Stormarn district, including Ahrensburg, Glinde, and Großhansdorf. Once a year, the association opens its doors to the public: for the Summer Festival at the Animal Shelter.

A Day for the Animals and the Region

During the summer festival, visitors can explore the grounds, peek into the kennels, and meet the dogs, cats, and small animals waiting for new families. The volunteer helpers answer questions about animal welfare work, adoption, and daily life at the shelter.

Even though admission is free: The association is financed primarily by donations and membership fees. During the summer festival, there will be donation boxes, a sales stand with pet food, accessories, and association merchandise, as well as detailed information about sponsorship.
