Advent Kick-off at the Fire Station
The Glühweinfest Mehna is a classic village Advent festival in the tradition of Eastern Thuringia. It is organized by the Mehna Volunteer Fire Brigade together with the other village associations. The venue is the Mehna Fire Station and its forecourt — a classic meeting place for a small Advent gathering. In 2026, the festival will take place on Saturday, November 28, the last weekend of November, shortly before the first Advent.
Mulled Wine, Stollen, and Convivial Mood
The program is manageable, but focused: mulled wine in several varieties (classic red, white, non-alcoholic children's punch), Christmas specialties (bratwurst, stollen, gingerbread, roasted almonds), convivial atmosphere around fire barrels and the mulled wine stand. A small lighting display at the fire station, often live Christmas carols, and encounters with neighbors — the festival serves the social cohesion of the small village.

The district of Mehna belongs to the administrative community of Rositz in the Altenburger Land district (state of Thuringia). The region is predominantly agricultural; association life — especially fire brigades and heritage clubs — sustains the social life of small village communities.
