The Starkenfest is the traditional village and fire brigade festival of the municipality of Starkenberg. On Saturday, July 11, 2026, starting at 11 AM, the Starkenberg Volunteer Fire Brigade opens the Saalvorhof for a day-long festival that combines traditional village atmosphere, exciting fire brigade experiences, and a diverse entertainment program. Free admission.

Field Kitchen and Culinary Offerings

The culinary heart of the festival is the field kitchen, where traditional roulades and dumplings are prepared — a hearty Thuringian delicacy served by local cooks. The offering is complemented by:

• Grill specialties
• Gyros
• Mushroom dishes
• Coffee and cake in the afternoon
• Cold and hot drinks

Music and Dance — from Brass Band to DJ

The musical program changes its character throughout the day:

• Morning — Opening with the Starkenberg Brass Band and the Lumpzig Brass Band
• Afternoon — Performances by dance groups from local sports clubs
• 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM — Children's Disco
• From 8:00 PM — Live music and DJ sets until the early morning

Fire Brigade Experience and Children's Program

As a fire brigade festival, Starkenfest focuses on interactive fire brigade education: visitors can touch and try out fire brigade equipment and even complete a fire extinguisher training session on the Fire-Trainer system. For the youngest guests, there is a diverse children's program:

Starkenberg — Municipality in the Altenburger Land

The municipality of Starkenberg (approx. 1,800 inhabitants) is located in the Altenburger Land district in eastern Thuringia, on the border with Saxony. The rural municipality is part of the historic Altenburger Land region with its rich agricultural tradition and the history of Skat card games (Altenburg is the birthplace of Skat). Starkenfest is the most important village community event of the year, jointly supported by the Volunteer Fire Brigade and community clubs.
