About Wallstadter Kerwe
Wallstadter Kerwe — edition 2026
2026 Edition — Palatinate District Tradition
The Wallstadter Kerwe 2026 will follow the proven three-day format. The Interessengemeinschaft Wallstadter Vereine (IWV) has confirmed the annual recurrence; the exact date will be published as usual in spring 2026 via the Wallstadt website and the IWV Facebook page. Traditionally, the Kerwe takes place on the third weekend of July — in 2025 it ran from July 18th to 20th, and in 2026 it will likely be from July 17th to 19th.
The established format is expected, with marquee opening on Friday by Festzeltkommando, Hahnenanstich on Saturday afternoon, ecumenical service and Weißwurst brunch on Sunday, as well as an extensive children's program.

Wallstadter Kerwe — Mannheim District Festival with Tradition
When the Rathausplatz in Mannheim's Wallstadt district is decorated with a marquee, beer benches, and pennant chains on the third weekend of July, the traditional Wallstadter Kerwe is back. Organized by the Interessengemeinschaft Wallstadter Vereine (IWV), the Kerwe is a typical Palatinate district festival: three days of community, music, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere. Unlike large commercial city festivals, the Kerwe is organized by local clubs for local families — the charm of a real Palatinate tradition in the heart of Mannheim.
Marquee Opening and Hahnenanstich
The festive opening takes place on Friday evening at 6 PM with the opening of the marquee. This is followed by the stage program with the Festzeltkommando — a local cover band with Palatinate flair and a classic repertoire of Schlager, Rock'n'Roll, and current hits. On Saturday at 5 PM, the traditional Hahnenanstich follows — the Palatinate version of tapping the first keg, complete with a speech from the mayor and the obligatory first beer. The Kerwe is then officially open, and the marquee fills up.
Sunday — Service and Weißwurst Brunch
Sunday morning is traditionally family-friendly. At 10 AM, the ecumenical service begins in the marquee — a nice, low-threshold event for church skeptics, the atmosphere is always relaxed and festive. Afterwards, starting at 11 AM, the Weißwurst brunch takes place with classic Weißwurst tradition: pretzels, sweet mustard, Weißbier or Helles. A typical Palatinate breakfast selection with Saumagen, Leberwurst, and Rotwurst also complements the brunch.
Children's Program and Sunday
Sunday afternoon is dedicated to children — bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities from the Wallstadt school, and a raffle by the fire department. The Festzeltkommando plays again in a relaxed family atmosphere before the marquee closes late Sunday evening. In total, the Kerwe attracts around 5,000–8,000 visitors per weekend — mainly residents from Wallstadt and the surrounding Mannheim districts (Käfertal, Vogelstang).
Wallstadt and Mannheim
The district of Wallstadt, with around 9,500 inhabitants, is located in the north of Mannheim — historically an independent village, it was only incorporated in 1929. To this day, Wallstadt has retained its own village character with half-timbered houses, its own church, and its local Wallstadt identity. This independence is particularly evident during the Kerwe — it is celebrated not as a big city event in Mannheim, but as a Wallstadt local festival. Mannheim, as the "Quadratestadt" (city of squares) with its famous grid-like city center, is about 6 km to the south; however, Wallstadt is well connected by S-Bahn and bus.
