Mannheim's Largest District Festival — Kirchweih on Feudenheim's Hauptstraße
The Feudenheimer Kerwe dates back to the Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of St. Bartholomew's Church and is one of Mannheim's most traditional district festivals. Today, it is by far the largest district festival in the city — around 35,000 visitors come every year, several thousand more than the classic Mannheim city festival at the Wasserwall. The organizer is the Feudenheimer Kerweverein e.V., a civic initiative with a long history.
The Hauptstraße Feudenheim — the district's central shopping street — becomes a mile-long row of stalls for about 1 km. Three stages are spread across this section of the street: one stage at Schiffmühlen-Platz (main stage), one in the middle, and one at the northern end of the festival area. Live bands alternate: rock cover bands, Schlager acts, local stars, occasionally brass bands or a big band set. In addition, there are carousels, rides for children, game stalls, and a huge range of culinary offerings.
On Sunday, Feudenheim opens its shops for Sunday shopping — the combination of Kerwe atmosphere and shopping is one of the event's success factors. Local retailers, specialty shops, boutiques, and restaurants along the Hauptstraße benefit from the crowds. The typical Palatinate-Kurpfalz Kerwe atmosphere — cozy, convivial, with the central toast of the Kerweborscht (Kerwe president) — is maintained.
With just under 17,000 inhabitants, Feudenheim is one of Mannheim's largest districts and is located in the northeast of the city between the Neckar river and the Käfertaler Wald forest. Until 1910, Feudenheim was an independent municipality, and its village character has been preserved despite its incorporation into the city — and this is precisely what makes the Kerwe so special. Feudenheim doesn't feel like an anonymous big-city district, but like its own village with its own traditions.
The Feudenheimer Kerwe follows a firm tradition: the 3rd weekend in October. In 2025, this was Oct 18–19; for 2026, it's expected to be Oct 17–18. Official confirmation will be provided by the Feudenheimer Kerweverein e.V. a few weeks before the festival.
Three stages, a kilometer-long row of stalls, carousels, Sunday shopping — the proven format will again be the main focus in 2026.
