Neighbourhood Christmas market in the Käfertal cultural centre — Crafts, mulled wine evening, and Advent programme
The Käfertal Christmas Market is a typical Mannheim neighbourhood Christmas market: not a large tourist event like the Mannheim Christmas Market in front of the Water Tower, but an intimate, family-friendly event for the Käfertal district — supported by the Kulturhaus Käfertal and the community association of Käfertal clubs. The event has been running since the late 1990s and is one of the fixed Advent dates in Mannheim's Nordstadt. The 27th edition took place in 2024.
Around 30 exhibitors set up their stalls on the outdoor grounds and in the rooms of the cultural centre at Gartenstraße 8. The offerings are deliberately craft-oriented: handmade jewellery, creative upcycling, woodwork, pottery, felt crafts, homemade jams and liqueurs, cookies and stollen, oils and vinegars, Advent arrangements, and Christmas decorations. Neighbourhood schools and kindergartens participate with their own stalls — crafts, baked goods, and small items made by the children go to the supporting association.
On Saturday evening from around 7 PM, the traditional mulled wine evening is celebrated with tarte flambée and live music — the acoustic highlight of the weekend. For children, there are craft activities, stories, a meeting café on Sunday, and occasionally a visit from St. Nicholas. The cultural centre provides food and drinks all day with warm meals, coffee, and cake.
Käfertal, with around 26,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest districts of Mannheim (independent city in the Rhein-Neckar district, city code 08222) and is located in the northeast of the city. The historically independent place was incorporated into Mannheim in 1897. Today, Käfertal is a mixed district of old farmhouses, Wilhelminian-era houses, and newer residential areas — the Kulturhaus Käfertal, with over 100 events annually (concerts, theatre, exhibitions, courses), is its cultural heart.
Admission to the Käfertal Christmas Market is free. Free parking directly at the cultural centre. Accessible by tram lines 1 or 7 (stop Käfertal Bahnhof) or by S-Bahn line S2.
The exact date for 2026 has not yet been officially published by the community association of Käfertal clubs at the time of research; however, following long-standing tradition, the market will take place on the first Advent weekend. In 2026, this is expected to be Saturday, 28 November, and Sunday, 29 November.
The programme follows the established structure: around 30 stalls with crafts and upcycling, participation from neighbourhood schools and kindergartens, a mulled wine evening with live music on Saturday, and a meeting café and children's programme on Sunday. The Kulturhaus Käfertal coordinates the programme.
