With a documented history of over 200 years, the market is one of the oldest folk festivals in the region and the hallmark of Simmerath. From May 31 to June 1, 2026, the city center will once again transform into a lively marketplace with hundreds of stalls, amusement rides, and program items.

Simmerath and the North Eifel

Simmerath (around 15,000 inhabitants) is located in the Aachen Region in the heart of the North Eifel. The municipality is the gateway to the Eifel National Park — one of Germany's most beautiful national parks — and home to several important Eifel institutions. Vogelsang IP, a central educational and cultural center on the site of the former Nazi Ordensburg, is located within Simmerath's municipal area. The Rursee lake is also not far away.

Spring Market as a City Festival

Unlike pure flea markets, the Simmerath Spring Market is a full-fledged Volksfest (folk festival): Market stalls, amusement rides, and gastronomy are spread across the main street and adjacent squares. The compact city center with its central area around Hauptstraße 65 (location of the business association) fills with thousands of visitors from all over the Eifel, from Aachen, Düren, and the nearby Belgian region for two days.

On Sunday, June 1, 2026, the shops in Simmerath city center will open their doors. The open-for-shopping Sunday is a significant success factor of the market — it makes the Spring Market a complete shopping and experience day. The Municipality of Simmerath and the Gewerbeverein Simmerath Marketing GmbH & Co. KG (Simmerath Business Association) jointly organize the market. The combination of municipal and private sector organization has proven effective for decades and ensures professional execution despite the scale.
