Tip
Combine the city festival with a visit to the Upper Castle (Rubens Gallery!) — Peter Paul Rubens was born in Siegen.
One City — Two Levels — One Festival
Siegen is a city of two levels: the Unterstadt lies on the Sieg riverbank, while the Oberstadt — with the Upper and Lower Castles — sits enthroned on the heights above. Both are connected by an incline and stairs, often perceived as two separate districts in everyday life. During the Siegener Stadtfest, however, they merge into a single festival mile: stages at Kornmarkt, Schlossplatz, Markt, and along the routes in between. This makes the Siegener Stadtfest the largest festival mile in South Westphalia.
Program 2026
Three days of live stage programming, cultural events, market activities, and a family program. The Siegener Blasorchester traditionally performs on August 29th — a fixed date in the club calendar. Cover bands, singer-songwriters, dance groups, cabaret, comedy: the stage program is diverse and caters to different generations. Associations, initiatives, and the city's marketing department present themselves at activity stands. Food stalls offer regional specialties (Sauerländer Sauerbraten, Westfälisches Pumpernickel bread, beer from Bergisches Hopfen) and international street food.
Siegen — University City in the Siegerland
Siegen has around 100,000 inhabitants and is the largest city in South Westphalia. With the University of Siegen, the Krönchen — the city symbol over 700 years old — and the baroque stronghold of the Upper Castle, Siegen is considered the cultural center of South Westphalia. Its location on the edge of the Rothaargebirge and at the beginning of the Westerwald also makes it a tourist starting point.
Organization and Tradition
Stadtmarketing Siegen GmbH organizes the city festival in cooperation with local clubs, cultural creators, business associations, and Siegen-Wittgenstein Tourism. The festival concept combines identity preservation („Wir Siegerländer“) with supra-regional appeal — day-trippers from the Olper Land, the Wittgensteiner Land, the southern Sauerland, and the Westerwald are part of the regular clientele.
Siegen-Wittgenstein District
Siegen is the district town of Siegen-Wittgenstein, which belongs to the Arnsberg administrative district. With 280,000 inhabitants across 11 municipalities, the district is characterized by its rural and mountainous landscape — the Rothaargebirge offers hiking trails, ski resorts (Winterberg), and nature parks. Siegen itself is the industrial and cultural anchor.
