Festive Opening in the Cathedral

The Greifswald New Year's Concert is part of the concert series »Music in the Cathedral« and opens the musical season of the St. Nicholas Cathedral community every January. The late Gothic brick cathedral with its distinctive tower has shaped the silhouette of the Hanseatic city since the 14th century — and also serves as an extraordinary resonance space for organ music, choir, and chamber ensembles.

The focus is often on the cathedral organ with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and Johannes Brahms. The program is typically complemented by contributions from the cathedral choir and solo voices from the Greifswald Bach Week circle.

Concert Venue St. Nicholas Cathedral

The cathedral is open daily from Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays after the church service. Its 100-meter-high tower is one of Greifswald's landmarks and can be climbed by prior arrangement.
