2026
About Funzelnacht
Funzelnacht — edition 2026
The Funzelnacht 2026 continues the proven concept: a compact city center, many small stages instead of one large one, the Selbbach stream as the axis of light, and the town church as the main backdrop for the fire show.
The event is organized by the city of Selb in cooperation with Forum Selb erleben, supported by the cultural association SelbKultur and the Selb Outlet Center. Admission is free, as every year. The detailed stage program will be published a few weeks before the date on the websites of SelbKultur and the city of Selb.

A Festival of Lights in the Porcelain City
The Funzelnacht is the most beautiful staging of Selb's old town of the year. A "Funzel" is a dim candle or small lamp in the Upper Franconian dialect – the Selber Funzelnacht turns these small light sources into a grand city festival. Hundreds of candles, fairy lights, lanterns, and light installations transform the city center into a sea of lights, which is particularly effective along the Selbbach stream.
From Association Project to City Festival
What began in 2019 as an idea by the cultural association SelbKultur e.V. has become a fixed date in Selb's event calendar within a few years. The city of Selb itself is now the main organizer, together with the Forum Selb erleben, supported by SelbKultur and the Selb Outlet Center. Nevertheless, the character remains deeply local: regional artists, local gastronomy, Selb's associations, and the residents shape the evening together.
Music, Performances, and Night Flea Market
Bands and solo artists perform on several squares, interspersed with performance artists offering fire and light shows. Simultaneously, Selb's city center transforms into a night flea market – private individuals and dealers sell vintage clothing, porcelain, household items, and bric-a-brac under the glow of the fairy lights. Restaurants extend their outdoor seating, and food trucks are also on site.
Highlight: Fire Show in Front of the Town Church
At 10 PM, the evening's highlight takes place in front of the Selb Town Church: a grand fire show that captivates thousands of visitors every year. The lighting of the town church and the surrounding houses creates an almost theatrical stage atmosphere. Selb itself, the Porcelain City of Upper Franconia (Rosenthal, Hutschenreuther) in the heart of the Fichtelgebirge, offers historical facades and a compact, walkable old town as a backdrop.
