Medieval, Folk, and Metal on the Goldberg

Since 2008, the Festival-Mediaval has been a firm fixture in the European medieval and folk scene. On the sprawling Goldberg grounds on the outskirts of Selb, thumping bagpipes, medieval dance music, and electrically amplified medieval rock meet an extensive medieval market, jugglers, fire shows, and dense camp life. With around 27,000 guests, it is one of the largest events of its kind on the continent.

18th Edition Under the Motto Legends

In 2026, the festival is under the motto Legends, honoring the grown festival community and the musical heritage of the scene. Highlights of the lineup include In Extremo with a show celebrating their 30th band anniversary, Corvus Corax with Cantus Buranus and a large orchestra, and Subway to Sally with the album Nord Nord Ost. Also featured are Faun, Estampie, Cara, Flook, Mr. Hurley & die Pulveraffen, Celtica Pipes Rock, Saor Patrol, Steve'n'Seagulls, and many other acts.

Selb — Porcelain City on the Czech Border

Selb is located in the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge, Bavaria, directly on the border with the Czech Republic. The city is known as a porcelain city – Rosenthal and Hutschenreuther, among others, have their roots here. The Goldberg above the town offers ample space for stages, the market, and camping as the festival grounds, making the Festival-Mediaval one of the region's most important cultural events.

Festival-Mediaval — edition 2026

The 18th edition of the Festival-Mediaval runs from Friday, September 11th, to Sunday, September 13th, 2026, on the Goldberg in Selb under the motto Legends. The program includes 22 confirmed bands, including In Extremo with a show for their 30th anniversary, Corvus Corax with Cantus Buranus and orchestra, and Subway to Sally with the album Nord Nord Ost. Also featured are a medieval market, camp life, and a family program.

The Festival-Mediaval 2026 is entirely dedicated to its motto Legends and celebrates the grown festival family. Since 2025, the festival has been led by Ulf Schertel (Admiral Ulf), who took over from long-time founder Bläcky.

Musically, the spectrum ranges from powerful medieval rock to acoustic folk sounds and medieval dance music. The headliner is In Extremo with a show for their 30th band anniversary. Corvus Corax brings Cantus Buranus with an approximately 50-piece orchestra to the stage, and Subway to Sally will play the album Nord Nord Ost. In addition to the music program, the medieval market, camp life, living chess, acrobatics, theater, and workshops shape the weekend.
