Four Days of Tradition in the Nordharz

Stapelburg belongs to the Nordharz municipality and is located on the northern edge of the Harz mountains, directly on the state border between Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony. The district has a long shooting tradition, which is celebrated every year in June with the grand Volks- und Schützenfest. For four days, the Schützenplatz (marksmen's square) transforms into a festival ground with a stage, shooting range, carousels, and a beer tent.

The Stapelburg Marksmen's Association organizes the festival together with the fire department and other local associations. Highlights include the crowning of the Schützenkönig, the parade through the village, the grand Children's Festival Day, and the musical evening with brass music and a party band.

The Nordharz municipality is a unified municipality in the Harz district of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and consists of several districts – including Ilsenburg, Wernigerode (partially), and Stapelburg. Its location in the Harz region makes it attractive for hikers and cyclists; the Schützenfest is one of the most important village traditions in the municipality's event calendar.
