27th Lower Franconian Short Film Festival at KuK Filmtheater
The Schweinfurter Kurzfilmtage is an annual short film festival held at the KuK Filmtheater Schweinfurt at Ignaz-Schön-Straße 32. Schweinfurt is an independent city in the Lower Franconia region of Bavaria, known not only as an industrial center but also as home to a growing cultural scene. The KuK Filmtheater is one of the oldest independent cinemas in the region.
The 27th Short Film Days will take place from April 2nd to 4th, 2026, over the Easter weekend. The program includes around 70 films presented in six thematic programs and 17 screenings. Two main programs (A and B) will run concurrently in the cinema's two auditoriums.
The festival has developed its own distinct identity: the focus is on satire and black humor – genres often on the fringes of typical short film festival programming. In addition, the Kurzfilmtage presents experimental, political, and documentary films.
A central element: 13 regional films (seven in program A, six in program B) compete for the Lower Franconian Regional Film Award with €300 prize money, sponsored by the district of Lower Franconia and decided by audience vote. This award is an important recognition for young filmmakers from Lower Franconia.
In addition to the main programs, the festival offers special formats: a children's program at 3 PM (suitable for ages 5 and up), the block "Die Langen Kurzen" (The Long Shorts) featuring films over 15 minutes in length, and an Antarctica Special with 12 films from the Winter International Filmfest of Antarctica.
The Easter weekend format gives the Schweinfurter Kurzfilmtage a special atmosphere: three days of concentrated film culture in a traditional independent cinema, complemented by discussions with filmmakers and a café ambiance at KuK.
