Carnival in Schweinfurt
The Schweinfurt Carnival Parade is the jester's highlight of the fifth season in the Lower Franconian city of Schweinfurt in the state of Bavaria. It is organized by the Erste Schweinfurter Karnevalsgesellschaft e.V. (ESKAGE), the city's traditional carnival club. With around 25,000 expected spectators, the parade is considered the second-largest carnival parade in Mainfranken.
The Parade Route through the Old Town
The procession of floats and walking groups starts at Spitalseeplatz and winds its way over Roßbrunnstraße, An den Schanzen, Neutorstraße, Kornmarkt, Obere Straße, and Roßmarkt to Marktplatz. Spectators can follow the colorful spectacle at around 16 points along the route – floats, marching bands, Guggenmusik, and costumed groups ensure a lively atmosphere.
Prince and Princess and Town Hall Storm
As with every carnival season, a Schweinfurt Prince and Princess couple are at the center of attention. The traditional Town Hall Storm, which symbolically begins weeks before the parade, kicks off the heated phase – the jesters symbolically conquer the town hall and take over power in the city for the carnival period.
Who Can Participate
All carnival societies from the city and district of Schweinfurt, as well as numerous clubs and groups, participate in the parade. Registrations are made through ESKAGE. This makes the carnival parade a community event that puts the entire region in a festive mood.
Atmosphere
Helau and candy rain: The Schweinfurt Carnival Parade is a celebration for the whole family. Costumed children collect sweets, the Guggenmusik blares through the streets, and the entire city center transforms into a single jester's stage for an afternoon. An indispensable date in the Franconian carnival calendar.
