Franconian wine enjoyment against a historic old town backdrop
Since its premiere, the Schwabach Wine Festival has quickly become a firm fixture in the event calendar of this Middle Franconian gold-beating city. On the central Martin-Luther-Platz, framed by the historic old town and the over 600-year-old town church of St. Johannes and St. Martin, three Franconian vintners will be serving their wines for five days.
The focus is on three family businesses from the Franconian wine region:
Around 30 wines from the current vintage will be offered – from dry Silvaner to fruity Riesling, as well as Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau, and selected red wines. Those interested can chat directly with the vintners about the vineyard, vintage, and winemaking process.
Franconian-Mediterranean cuisine pairs perfectly with the wine: tarte flambée, crispy pizza, antipasti, fish specialties, and small snacks round off the evening of enjoyment. Live acts and cover bands provide the atmosphere on stage every day; Saturday evening is traditionally a program highlight.
The reigning Franconian Wine Queen, together with the city leadership, will officially tap the first keg on the opening evening. For a few days, Schwabach becomes an outpost of Franconian wine, even though the city itself does not belong to the growing region. This creates a bridge between the Franconian enjoyment landscapes.
Schwabach in the Roth district (a district-free city in the Middle Franconia administrative region, Bavaria) is primarily known for its centuries-old tradition of gold-beating. The wine festival offers a contrasting accent: it brings the wine culture of northern Franconia to a region more characterized by brewing tradition – thus creating a bridge between the Franconian enjoyment landscapes.
The 4th Schwabach Wine Festival runs from Wednesday, June 3, to Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Martin-Luther-Platz in the heart of Schwabach. The dates include the Ascension Day holiday and the following bridge weekend.
The official keg tapping will be performed by Franconian Wine Queen Angelina Seiler at 6:30 PM on the opening evening. For all five days, the three wineries Behringer (Abtswind), Goger (Sand am Main), and Bio-Weingut Müller (Hammelburg) will be serving their current vintage wines. Live music will be performed daily on the festival stage; a special program highlight on Saturday is a tribute to ABBA.
