Five Days of Family Fun as a Spring Volksfest in the City Centre
The Schwabach Children's Kirchweih is a traditional spring Volksfest (traditional folk festival) that is entirely focused on children and families. It takes place in the city centre of Schwabach, an independent city in Middle Franconia, Bavaria. Under the motto "Five Days of Family Fun", the Kirchweih (traditional fair) offers a packed programme for all age groups.
The offerings include rides for various age groups, including the children's roller coaster "Bugs & Bees", a bungee trampoline, a children's boat ride, and other carousels and amusement rides. Numerous food stalls serve sweet and savoury treats, from crêpes and ice cream to fries and Lángos, as well as classic Kirchweih delicacies.
An exciting programme awaits visitors on the interactive stage: clowning, magicians, Punch and Judy shows, performances by dance and music schools, and youth orchestras, and a mini-disco on Friday and Saturday evenings. The festival is traditionally opened by Schwabach kindergartens and the Lord Mayor after a parade. Craft and sandpit activities are free of charge.
A popular element is the rally game: families pick up a question sheet at the Bürgerbüro (citizens' office) or from the stallholders, solve the tasks, and hand in the sheet at the main stage, where a prize draw takes place. The Schwabach Children's Kirchweih thus combines classic Kirchweih fun with a distinctly child-friendly, participatory concept – a firm fixture in the spring calendar for families from Schwabach and the region.
The 2026 edition lasts for five days. The official opening will take place on Friday, April 24, at 5:30 PM by Schwabach kindergartens and Lord Mayor Peter Reiß, following a parade starting from the indoor swimming pool. Attractions include the children's roller coaster "Bugs & Bees", Rock-Q, the Rocket, a bungee trampoline, and a children's boat ride. The interactive stage will feature a changing programme of magicians, Punch and Judy shows, music and dance schools, and youth bands; on Friday and Saturday evenings, there will be a mini-disco. A rally game with a prize draw completes the child-friendly programme.
Schwabach is easily accessible via the S-Bahn from Nuremberg and the A6/B2 motorway. The festival activities are concentrated in the walkable city centre.
