Concerts in gardens and parks of the Bremen region
When the region's gardens become concert halls in August, it's GartenKultur time. Since 2003, the Kommunalverbund Niedersachsen/Bremen has been transforming private and public gardens, parks, and avenues into atmospheric open-air stages. The special appeal lies in the diversity: the finest classical music meets jazz and folk, tango meets blues, salon music meets boogie-woogie — always embedded in a green setting that makes every concert an experience.
The idea for the festival originated from the working group Kultur of the Kommunalverbund: The GartenKultur-Route with its special gardens was already established and popular — music was added to it. The festival started in 2003 with around 20 concerts at nine venues. Today, there are regularly over 40 concerts in more than 20 cities and municipalities with about 15,000 visitors. For this special inter-municipal cooperation, the Kommunalverbund was awarded second prize in the NordWest-Award in 2009. The participating organizers arrange their concerts themselves; the Kommunalverbund bundles them into a festival series and handles central marketing.
In the Hanseatic city itself, locations such as Kränholm in northern Bremen, Cato-Bontjes-van-Beek-Platz, and Haus am Walde are among the regular venues. The program ranges from powerful Rhythm & Blues to open-air evenings with bands from Bremen and the surrounding area to orchestral concerts. Several concerts are free to attend, others at moderate prices — a low-threshold offer that brings culture to the neighborhood.
With dozens of concerts in numerous cities in the region, the GartenKultur-Musikfestival is one of the largest decentralized music festivals in northwestern Germany. It combines the garden culture of northwestern Germany with high-quality live music and invites visitors to discover the state of Bremen and its Lower Saxony surroundings from a particularly beautiful, sonorous perspective.
In 2026, the GartenKultur-Musikfestival will once again transform private and public gardens, avenues, and parks in the region into open-air stages for an entire month. Around 40 concerts are planned for August 2026 in more than 20 cities and municipalities, several of them in the city of Bremen itself. Proven Bremen venues include Kränholm in northern Bremen, Cato-Bontjes-van-Beek-Platz, and Haus am Walde on Kuhgrabenweg. Stylistically, the program ranges from classical and chamber music to jazz, folk, tango, blues, and boogie-woogie, as well as salon and world music. Some concerts are free to attend, others at moderate prices (guideline approx. €20, reduced approx. €15). The organizer is the Kommunalverbund Niedersachsen/Bremen e.V. — the association will publish the complete program booklet and all concert dates, as usual, starting in early July 2026 on gartenkultur-musikfestival.de and as a printed program booklet.
The specific Bremen concert program for 2026, including dates, times, artists, and prices, will be published by the Kommunalverbund starting in early July 2026 on gartenkultur-musikfestival.de.
The concerts take place at various venues in Bremen and the region. The exact addresses and directions will be published in the program; travel by public transport is recommended.
Some concerts are free to attend, others at moderate prices (guideline approx. €20, reduced approx. €15). Details in the program.
