In Wadersloh, in the Münsterland region, every district has its own marksmen's association — and thus its own Schützenfest. The Wadersloh-Geist Marksmen's Association e.V. hosts its traditional Schützenfest starting on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM on the festival grounds at Geister Schule in Wadersloh-Geist.

Village Schützenfest with its Own Character

The district of Geist is a typical Westmünsterland village — small-scale development, agriculturally influenced character, close-knit club life. The Schützenfest is the most important club festival of the year, bringing almost the entire village community together. The festival grounds at Geister Schule become the social center: marquee, marksmen's bar, bird shooting range, dance floor.

Classic Westphalian Program

The format follows the Westmünsterland Schützenfest tradition: Opening on Friday at 6:00 PM with reception and ceremony, bird shooting on Saturday to determine the new king and queen, parade and proclamation on Sunday, plus a marquee program with live music and a marksmen's ball. The club's companies, along with the marching band and court, parade through the district, visibly showcasing the tradition.

Wadersloh in Western Münsterland

Wadersloh is a municipality with just under 13,000 inhabitants in the Soest district, on the western edge of Münsterland, bordering Ostmünsterland and Lippstadt. The municipality consists of several districts — Wadersloh, Liesborn, Geist, Diestedde — each with its own village character and club life. The Geist Schützenfest is one of the village festivals that shape the community rhythm in spring and summer.

Schützenwesen as Village Culture

Westmünsterland marksmen's culture is predominantly Catholic, and here the marksmen's association is less a sports institution than a social anchor — the king shooting, court duties, harvest festivals, and marksmen's balls are as much a part of the village year as Carnival and Lent. The Geist Schützenfest is one of those local traditions that are still alive in western Münsterland.
