Three days of marksmen tradition in bergisch Sprockhövel-Herzkamp
For almost 100 years, the Herzkamp Marksmen's Association (Schützenverein Herzkamp e.V.) has been the custodian of marksmen's traditions in the Herzkamp district of Sprockhövel. In 2026, it is organizing its 67th marksmen's festival — and is heading towards its 100th anniversary. The marksmen's festival on the grounds at Barmer Straße is the highlight of the association's year and a central festival of identity for the district.
From Friday evening to Sunday evening, marksmen's culture shapes the Herzkamp district. Friday evening: Opening party in the festival tent with a live band. Saturday evening: Legendary marksmen's party with dancing late into the night. Sunday: Traditional parade through the town, marksmen's mass, coronation ceremony, and family day with a children's program.
Unlike the Catholic-Westphalian marksmen's system, which flourishes more in the Sauerland and Münsterland regions, the Bergisch marksmen's system has its own character — somewhat more sober, less baroque, with a stronger focus on community life and festival tent atmosphere. The Herzkamp Marksmen's Association cultivates this Bergisch marksmen's tradition with great dedication.
Sprockhövel is located in the Ennepe-Ruhr district between Wuppertal, Hattingen, and Wetter. With just under 25,000 inhabitants spread across three large districts (Niedersprockhövel, Obersprockhövel, Haßlinghausen) and the smaller districts of Herzkamp, Hiddinghausen, and Bossel, the town is predominantly rural and characteristic of the Bergisches Land. Herzkamp is a smaller district with about 1,500 inhabitants — a true village community with vibrant club life.
The Herzkamp Marksmen's Association was founded in 1927. With the 67th marksmen's festival in 2026, the association is approaching its 100th birthday — so the tradition lives on, carried by a dedicated generation of marksmen who uphold custom and conviviality.
The 67th marksmen's festival in 2026 continues the Bergisch marksmen's tradition in Sprockhövel-Herzkamp. The festival tent, parade, coronation, and family day form the classic program framework.
