Open Air at Schloß Bamenohl — Sauerland Summer with Castle Views
Looking for an open-air concert that isn't in a stadium or on a large festival field, but in a private castle park in the Sauerland? This is exactly what the Finnentrop Cultural Association (Kulturgemeinde Finnentrop e.V.) has been offering every summer for years with its Open Air at Schloß Bamenohl. The castle park with its baroque castle facade as a stage backdrop, a volunteer-organized event, an audience that enjoys both the concert and a picnic — this is the essence of this format.
Schloß Bamenohl — Baroque Moated Castle
Schloß Bamenohl is a baroque moated castle in Finnentrop-Bamenohl, on the southern edge of the Sauerland region. The complex dates back to the 17th century and is now privately owned — the owners traditionally open the castle park for the open-air concerts organized by the Finnentrop cultural association. The concert stage is set up on the lawn in front of the castle facade — the audience sits either on blankets they bring themselves or on benches provided by the cultural association.
Ö-Band as Headliner 2026
The headliner for the 2026 edition is the Ö-Band — arguably Germany's best-known Herbert Grönemeyer tribute band. The seven-member band from Schwarmstedt (Lower Saxony) plays through the best of the German singer-songwriter's repertoire: “Männer”, “Bochum”, “Mensch”, “Was soll das”, “Currywurst”, and many other classics. The Ö-Band has been active for over two decades and represents authentic, powerful Grönemeyer interpretations with live quality in Germany.
Supporting Act Wanted
A special feature of the 2026 edition: The Finnentrop cultural association is actively seeking a regional supporting act for the concert evening. Applications can be submitted via the website kulturgemeinde-finnentrop.de. The concept aims to showcase local musicians from the Sauerland and South Westphalia regions to a larger audience — a conscious statement for the regional music scene.
The Finnentrop Cultural Association (Kulturgemeinde Finnentrop e.V.)
The Finnentrop Cultural Association (Kulturgemeinde Finnentrop e.V.) is a volunteer-run cultural club that organizes concerts, theater performances, and readings throughout the year in the municipality of Finnentrop. The Open Air at Schloß Bamenohl is the traditional season opener — the communal experience in the late summer Sauerland park has been a firm fixture in the program for years. Ticket prices are deliberately kept moderate, and the program is co-financed.
Finnentrop and the Sauerland
Finnentrop is a municipality in the Olpe district, in the southern Sauerland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, with around 17,000 inhabitants. Bamenohl is one of the districts on the southwestern edge of the municipality, in the Lenne valley. The area is characterized by the Lenne valley, the Sauerland low mountain range, and several reservoirs such as the Sorpesee. An open-air concert preceded by a hiking tour and followed by an overnight stay in a Sauerland inn is a classic weekend for many concert-goers.
