One of the largest classic car meetings in Südharz with around 400 historic vehicles in the Walkenried spa gardens
The Südharz Classics in Walkenried are among the oldest and largest classic car meetings in Südharz. Initiator and organizer since its founding in 1993 has been Alexander Reimann, who conceived the event as a grassroots meeting without commercial orientation. Over more than three decades, the meeting has grown continuously and now gathers around 400 historic vehicles annually.
The venue is the Walkenried spa gardens at Geiersberg, located directly next to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Walkenried Abbey. The park-like area offers ample space for the orderly display of vehicles and, with the abbey as a backdrop, creates an extraordinary setting that visually shapes the meeting.
Unlike many commercially oriented classic car meetings, the Südharz Classics are free for both exhibitors and visitors. Pre-registration is not required; exhibitors can arrive directly with their vehicles on the day of the event. This uncomplicated character is part of the meeting's identity and distinguishes it from professionalized events of comparable size.
The spectrum of exhibited vehicles ranges from pre-war vehicles, German classics from the 1950s to 1980s (Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Opel, NSU, Borgward, DKW, Audi), international classics (Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, Ford, Cadillac, Buick), to youngtimers and special models.
Characteristic of the Südharz Classics is the familiar, convivial atmosphere. Encounters, exchange of experiences, restoration discussions, and shared memories shape the meeting at least as much as the exhibition itself. Food stalls provide refreshments.
The 2026 edition continues the unbroken tradition since 1993. With Alexander Reimann as the long-standing organizer and the established venue in the Walkenried spa gardens, the meeting is a fixture in the Südharz classic car calendar.
