About Südharz Classics

The Südharz Classics are among the largest and most traditional classic car meetings in Südharz. Since 1993, organizer Alexander Reimann has gathered around 400 historic vehicles annually in the Walkenried spa gardens at Geiersberg, near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Walkenried Abbey. Exhibitors and visitors have free access, and pre-registration is not required. This makes the meeting a deliberately non-commercial, grassroots classic car event that focuses entirely on the encounter between vehicle owners and enthusiasts. The spectrum ranges from pre-war vehicles and German classics from all post-war decades to youngtimers and special models. With its location near the monastery, the event is also combined with a touristically attractive venue in the southern Harz region.

Classic Car Tradition Since 1993

The Südharz Classics in Walkenried are among the oldest and largest classic car meetings in Südharz. Initiator and organizer since its founding in 1993 has been Alexander Reimann, who conceived the event as a grassroots meeting without commercial orientation. Over more than three decades, the meeting has grown continuously and now gathers around 400 historic vehicles annually.

Geiersberg Spa Gardens

The venue is the Walkenried spa gardens at Geiersberg, located directly next to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Walkenried Abbey. The park-like area offers ample space for the orderly display of vehicles and, with the abbey as a backdrop, creates an extraordinary setting that visually shapes the meeting.

Free for Exhibitors and Visitors

Unlike many commercially oriented classic car meetings, the Südharz Classics are free for both exhibitors and visitors. Pre-registration is not required; exhibitors can arrive directly with their vehicles on the day of the event. This uncomplicated character is part of the meeting's identity and distinguishes it from professionalized events of comparable size.

Vehicle Spectrum

The spectrum of exhibited vehicles ranges from pre-war vehicles, German classics from the 1950s to 1980s (Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Opel, NSU, Borgward, DKW, Audi), international classics (Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, Ford, Cadillac, Buick), to youngtimers and special models.

Atmosphere

Characteristic of the Südharz Classics is the familiar, convivial atmosphere. Encounters, exchange of experiences, restoration discussions, and shared memories shape the meeting at least as much as the exhibition itself. Food stalls provide refreshments.

Südharz Classics — edition 2026

The Südharz Classics 2026 will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026, starting at 10 AM in the Walkenried spa gardens at Geiersberg. Organizer Alexander Reimann expects around 400 historic vehicles again in the UNESCO World Heritage surroundings of Walkenried Abbey. Exhibitors and visitors have free access, and pre-registration is not required. The spectrum ranges from pre-war vehicles, German and international classics from all post-war decades, to youngtimers and special models. Food stalls, drink stands, and the abbey scenery make this meeting one of the most atmospheric classic car events in Südharz.

Südharz Classics 2026

The 2026 edition continues the unbroken tradition since 1993. With Alexander Reimann as the long-standing organizer and the established venue in the Walkenried spa gardens, the meeting is a fixture in the Südharz classic car calendar.
