A Neighbourhood Celebrates Itself

The Lütten Klein Neighbourhood Festival carries its claim in its name: »We are Lütten Klein«. It is a festival by residents for residents, which transforms the Rostock district in the northwest of the Hanseatic city into a large festival mile once a year. The festival zone extends from the Warnow Park via the Boulevard to the weekly market.

The festival is organised by the Lütten Klein local district council and the association IN VIA Rostock e.V. However, the festival thrives on the broad participation of the district: Numerous clubs, the Protestant church community, neighbourhood and community centres, kindergartens, schools, institutions, and the Warnemünde volunteer fire brigade contribute with activities.

Programme for Participation

The festival focuses on participation rather than passive entertainment: There are numerous movement, creative, health, and information activities. Fixed programme items include face painting, a craft street, fire engines to touch, neighbourhood challenges, a neighbourhood quiz, and a football tournament. For families, the neighbourhood festival thus offers a varied day.

Identity and Cohesion

Lütten Klein is a district with large housing estates — and with a history that began in the GDR era. The neighbourhood festival strengthens the sense of community: It shows that behind the prefabricated building facades lives a committed, diverse neighbourhood. This is exactly what the motto stands for.
