About Ritter-Hundt Wine Festival

The Ritter-Hundt Wine and Music Festival is the second major Kerb (traditional festival) of the year in Saulheim and traditionally takes place on the second weekend of September in the Nieder-Saulheim district. For four days, from Thursday to Sunday, Ritter-Hundt-Straße between Fichtenweg and Kiefernweg becomes a festival mile. The focus is on the wines of local winegrowers, who invite visitors to taste and linger, complemented by live music on the festival stage, a Schlachtfest by the volunteer fire brigade, and coffee and cake from the Landfrauen (countrywomen's association). The combination of wine culture, hearty cuisine, and musical entertainment makes the event a fixed date in the Saulheim festival calendar.

A Wine Festival with Kerb Character

Unlike the classic Ober-Saulheim Kerb, the Ritter-Hundt Kerb places even more emphasis on wine. Named after Ritter-Hundt-Straße in the Nieder-Saulheim district, the festival combines the tradition of a Rhenish-Hessian village festival with the character of a Straußwirtschaft (seasonal wine tavern). The winegrowers of the community invite guests to their stands and serve Riesling, Silvaner, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, and Rosé wines from the current harvest.

Schlachtfest and Landfrauen Coffee

The Saulheim Volunteer Fire Brigade traditionally organizes a Schlachtfest with sausage specialties, sauerkraut, and Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach). For those who prefer something less hearty, the Landfrauen offer a lovingly prepared coffee spread with homemade cakes, pastries, and streusel cookies. This combination of wine culture, hearty cuisine, and sweet temptation makes the event a true festival for all generations.

Amusements and Music

Amusements, stalls, and sales stands provide variety on the festival grounds. Children can enjoy the carousel, while older guests can linger at the wine stands. Cover bands, dialect musicians, and DJs alternate on stage. The focus is on Palatinate-Rhenish-Hessian atmosphere and Schlager music that invites sing-alongs and dancing.

White Table as a Pre-Event

Already on June 20, 2026, the Saulheim Kerwegemeinschaft (festival community) invites you to the Weiße Tafel (White Table) starting at 6 p.m. – an evening round table with white-covered tables, regional wines, and a communal meal under the open sky. Those who wish to visit the Kerb in September can get in the mood for the festival as early as early summer.
