Three-day wine and street festival followed by a market day in the Heilbronn wine region
Eberstadt is a small, traditional wine-growing community in the Heilbronn district, located about 10 kilometers north of the city of Heilbronn on the slope of the Heuchelberg. The community, with around 3,500 inhabitants, has thrived on viticulture since the Middle Ages — the vineyards on Heuchelberg, Geissberg, and Eberstadter Eberfürst produce Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, and Riesling grapes. The Eberstädter Wengerter (Wengerter = Southwestern German term for vintners) cultivate the slopes with centuries-old tradition — and the annual wine and street festival is the most important stage where they serve their wines directly to visitors' glasses.
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, September 4th to Sunday, September 6th, 2026, with an additional market day on Monday, September 7th. The Eberstädter Hauptstraße (Eberstadt Main Street) and the Marktplatz (Market Square) will become the festival grounds; residents and guests sit at long wooden benches, with wine and food stalls lining both sides of the street.
Specific times and program highlights:
The central meeting point for wine lovers is the Weinloge der Eberstädter Wengerter am Geissberg. Here, local vintners serve their wines directly — from robust Trollinger to classic Lemberger, as well as Schwarzriesling and Riesling. The Weinloge is a blend of a tasting stand and a meeting point for the wine community — those who want to try Eberstadt wines can chat with the vintners themselves and buy bottles on-site.
The Heilbronn wine region is one of Württemberg's most important growing areas. The typical specialty: Trollinger — a light, fruity red wine grape, considered the "house wine" of Württemberg and a must-have for any Vesper (snack). Lemberger (Blaufränkisch) is the second major Württemberg red wine grape — more robust, darker, with longer aging potential. Both varieties find ideal conditions in Eberstadt on the Heuchelberg slope.
A Swabian peculiarity of the festival is the large market day on Monday, September 7th from 8:00 AM. The market day is an old form of weekly market, which today is more of a special event with vendors from all over Southern Germany — offering everything from fabrics and leather goods to sweets, tools, plants, and household items. For many Eberstadt residents, the Monday market day is an integral part of the festival tradition — it extends the weekend and gives the festival its distinctive Swabian character.
This year's edition spans four days with a clearly structured program. The Eberstädter Hauptstraße (Eberstadt Main Street) becomes a festival mile with wine and food stalls, stages for live music, and a children's area. On Saturday evening from 5 PM, the official festival opening with keg tapping, welcome by city officials, and the start of the stage program. Sunday morning: Frühschoppen, lunch, family program — the highlight day of the festival. Monday from 8 AM: The large market day with vendors from the entire region.
The Weinloge am Geissberg (Wine Lodge on Geissberg hill) remains the constant meeting point for wine lovers — here, the Eberstädter Wengerter serve their best vintages and chat with guests about wine, weather, and vintages.
Admission to the festival grounds: free. Wine and food are paid for directly at the stands: glass of wine (0.2 l) typically €3–4, bottle of Trollinger €6–10, Vesper platter €8–12, beer €3–4. Market day stalls have their own prices depending on the vendor. Cash preferred.
By car: A6 exit Bad Rappenau or Heilbronn-Untereisesheim, then follow signs to Eberstadt. By bus: Lines from Heilbronn to Eberstadt. Parking available on the outskirts — the main street is a pedestrian zone during the festival.
Admission to the festival grounds: free. Wine and food are paid for directly at the stands — cash preferred for smaller amounts. Market day also freely accessible.
Come on Saturday evening for the festival opening at 5 PM — the atmosphere is most intimate then, and the vintners have time for longer conversations at the Weinloge. Try the Eberstädter Trollinger and Lemberger — both are typical Württemberg wines and rarely found in Northern Germany. Sunday is family day, and the Monday market day is the Swabian bonus. If you want to save on snacks, bring bread — Trollinger spritzer (Schorle) and Vesper are a classic pairing.
Hotels in Heilbronn (10 min away), Bad Rappenau, or directly in Eberstadt. For a more immersive wine experience: stay at a vintner's guesthouse in Eberstadt or in neighboring Brackenheim.
