Sommerpalais — Classicist Summer Residence in the Vogtland

The Sommerpalais in Fürstlich Greizer Park is one of the most beautiful classicist buildings in Central Germany. Built as a summer residence for the Princes Reuss Elder Line, it now serves as a cultural and event venue for the Thuringian Palaces and Gardens Foundation. The park itself — an English landscape park — is one of the most important in Thuringia. Greiz, in the Greiz district in the state of Thuringia, was once the residence city of the Principality of Reuss and has retained its aristocratic charm over the centuries.

Concerts 2026 — from Whitsun to Autumn

The concert series in the garden hall of the Sommerpalais has been a regular fixture in the Vogtland's cultural calendar for years. In 2026, the season begins on Whit Monday, May 25. At 2 PM, the Whitsun Concert features excerpts from opera, operetta, musical, and film music — performed by the Vogtland Philharmonie Greiz/Reichenbach. At 6 PM, the traditional Serenade Concert by the Vogtland Philharmonie follows — one of the musical highlights of the year in the Vogtland.

Thuringian Choral Treasures and SATIRICUM

The "Thuringian Choral Treasures" series also stops at the Sommerpalais in 2026 — as does the simultaneous event at Wilhelmsburg Castle in Schmalkalden. The program is complemented by further classical concerts from May to September. The SATIRICUM is accessible during the concert season — one of Germany's most significant caricature collections with works spanning three centuries.
