Frankenthal Christmas Market

The Frankenthal Christmas Market on Rathausplatz is the city's most important pre-Christmas event, attracting several hundred thousand visitors annually from the entire Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The city of Frankenthal is responsible for the organisation in cooperation with the retail association, local clubs, and schools.

Concept and Atmosphere

The market focuses on a balanced mix of classic arts and crafts, culinary specialities, and a dense stage programme. Around fifty huts line Rathausplatz and the adjacent pedestrian zones, with a large Christmas tree adorned with over a thousand lights at its centre.

Stage Programme

School choirs, magic shows, dance groups, brass bands, and small theatre ensembles take turns on the main stage. The Frankenthal Men's Choir, local music associations, and neighbouring church communities also regularly contribute programme items.

Children's Winter Magic Erkenbertruine

The Children's Winter Magic in the Erkenbertruine, from 6 to 21 December, serves as a second pillar of the Christmas market, with daily opening hours from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Activities like ice stock sport, a snowboard simulator, and a bouncy castle provide a specifically family-friendly offer with free admission.

Supporting Events

The advent calendar on the town hall, whose windows are opened daily at 6:00 PM, the retail shop window competition, and the open-for-shopping Advent Sundays, together with the market, form a dense Christmas city programme. Mulled wine and food are consumed at open stalls and standing tables around the square.
