The Weinfest der Freundschaft is a Palatinate festival institution with special historical significance. It was founded in 1946 — shortly after the end of the Second World War — as the first wine festival of its kind in the Palatinate. The name “der Freundschaft” (of friendship) refers to the newly coined hope for peace at the time and the desire to heal wounds through shared celebration.
The 2026 edition takes place from Friday 7th to Monday 10th August — four festival days in the wine village of Duttweiler, the smallest wine village in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. This size is precisely the charm of the festival: no crowds, but an authentic Palatinate wine festival atmosphere in a manageable village center.
The official festival opening on Friday 7th August at 7 p.m. is always a highlight: The focus is on the crowning of the Duttweiler Wine Queen by the reigning Palatinate Wine Queen. This inaugurates the new “ambassador” for Duttweiler wines and places the entire wine year in a festive setting.
During the festival days, all wineries and associations in the village open their doors and cellars. The lovingly decorated winegrowers' courtyards of Duttweiler become stages for authentic Palatinate wine culture, where you can not only taste wines but also chat directly with the winegrowing families.
The oenological offering is broad: Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder, Schwarzriesling, and Palatinate rosé wines form the focus. The Duttweiler wines are characterized by a special minerality and rich structure, as the village lies somewhat off the classic Haardtrand line on different subsoil.
Palatinate specialties — Saumagen, Bratwurst, Leberknödel, Flammkuchen, Quetschekuche — complement the wine offerings. The family-friendly atmosphere of this small, traditional festival makes it a hidden gem for Palatinate lovers.

The 2026 edition of the Weinfest der Freundschaft comprises four festival days from 7th to 10th August. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years since 1946.
The event is part of the rich Palatinate festival culture, which attracts thousands of guests to the Neustadt an der Weinstraße region every year. Programme Weinfest der Freundschaft 2026
Friday 7th August 2026, 7:00 PM — Opening
Official festival opening with the crowning of the Duttweiler Wine Queen by the reigning Palatinate Wine Queen. Afterwards, festival activities in the decorated winegrowers' courtyards. First glasses of wine and Palatinate dishes.
Saturday 8th August 2026
Main visitor day with a full festival atmosphere. All Duttweiler wineries and associations open doors and cellars. Live music in several courtyards, Palatinate dishes, wine tasting with the winegrowing families.
Sunday 9th August 2026
Family day with a morning pint and afternoon festival activities. Relaxed atmosphere, ideal for conversations with the winegrowers.
Monday 10th August 2026
Last festival day with a traditional Palatinate festival finale.
