Three days of Celtic-Viking festival on the Baltic Sea — torchlight procession, Wolf Barsch and world-class fire show
Samhain (pronounced "Sow-in") is one of the four main festivals of the Celtic year and traditionally marks the transition from the light to the dark half of the year — a festival that in modern perception forms the precursor to Halloween and All Saints' Day. In Celtic mythology, Samhain is the moment when the threshold between the worlds is particularly thin and the souls of the ancestors can enter our world. An atmospherically dense, mythologically rich tradition that has found more and more followers in Germany in recent years as a cultural live event.
The Ostsee Resort Damp is located on the Schleswig Outer Fjord in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, about halfway between Kiel and Flensburg. With its large complex — hotel, apartments, water sports center, several outdoor areas — the resort offers the appropriate infrastructure to stage a three-day festival with a camp, stage, markets, and fire show. This is not by chance: the resort has established the Samhain format as an independent event in recent years, attracting day visitors beyond hotel guests.
Over all three days, a small medieval camp village is created: market stalls with jewelry, leather goods, drinking horns, Viking replicas; blacksmiths at the forge; campfire groups, demonstrations of historical crafts. A "Viking Challenge" for the brave and a dedicated program for families round off the offer. It is a mix of reenactment, medieval market, and festival, which has tradition in Germany in comparable formats (Wacken Open Air, individual medieval festivals).
The set highlight is Saturday evening, October 31, 2026:
The organizers describe the festival as "the festival when the boundary between our world and the world of ancestors is particularly thin." Those who come are not looking for a generic Halloween party, but an atmospherically dense, theatrically staged event in an unusual setting on the Baltic Sea. Families are welcome — the Viking Challenge, craft activities, and child-friendly demonstrations provide a dedicated program.
Samhain at Ostsee Resort Damp 2026 runs from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 1, 2026. Over the three days, a medieval camp village, market stalls, demonstrations, and a program for families will be created. The highlight is Saturday evening with a torchlight procession, live concert, and fire show.
Day guests should inquire about admission at the resort. For resort guests, the festival is usually included in the stay package.
