Festival in a former paper mill
The Alte Papierfabrik in Greiz has been a socio-cultural center for the region between Vogtland and East Thuringia for years. The association Alte Papierfabrik Greiz e.V. organizes concerts, theater, readings, and workshops, filling the historic factory halls with contemporary youth and subculture. Once a year, the program moves outdoors: for the Pappe OpenAir.
KulturGarage as an Open-Air Stage
The festival takes place on the outdoor grounds of the KulturGarage at Mylauer Straße 3 – right on the Göltzsch river. The industrial backdrop of the historic paper mill gives the festival its unmistakable flair: between concrete, steel, and brick, framed by the Göltzsch promenade.
Intercultural and Youth-Oriented
The festival typically presents bands from Germany, Italy, France, and the Netherlands and serves as an intercultural platform. Indie, Alternative, Singer-Songwriter, and experimental formats shape the program. Self-organization, short distances, and personal contact between bands and audience are key features.
Greiz in the Greiz District
Greiz is the old ducal residence town in Vogtland and the seat of the Greiz district. With the Summer Palace and Lower Palace, the Greizer Park (designed by Karl Eduard Petzold), and its industrial heritage on the Göltzsch, the city combines high culture and industrial past. The Pappe OpenAir brings contemporary youth culture to this setting.
