Town and castle festival at the foot of Weibertreu Castle ruins with historical scene reenactment
On May 9th and 10th, 2026, the second edition of the Weibertreufest will take place at Grasiger Hag, directly beneath the ruins of Weibertreu Castle. The festival tells — in a modern way with rock concerts and a family program — the famous legend of the "faithful women of Weinsberg": When King Konrad III besieged the town in 1140, he is said to have granted the women free passage with everything they could carry. The women then carried their husbands huck-a-back out of the castle — a legendary act that gave the castle the name Weibertreu and continues to shape Weinsberg's identity to this day.
Saturday evening kicks off with two open-air concerts:
In the festival tent and at 15 international food stalls, you can find a wide culinary selection, from traditional currywurst to Indian fusion cuisine.
Sunday is all about family and history:
Weibertreu Castle has perched on a hill above Weinsberg since the 11th century. Today, it is an impressive ruin, accessible year-round, offering panoramic views over the Württemberg vineyards to the Heuchelberger Warte and the Heilbronn basin. The Grasiger Hag, the meadow below the castle, has been Weinsberg's festival grounds for generations and provides the ideal open-air backdrop — with a view of the castle ruins in the background.
Weinsberg, with just under 13,000 inhabitants, is located in the Heilbronn district, about 5 km east of Heilbronn. The town is famous for its wine — the State Viticulture School (founded in 1868) is one of the oldest wine schools in Germany — and for Justinus Kerner, the doctor-poet who worked here. The Weibertreufest combines this cultural depth with modern festival culture — legend, music, family. Around 3,000 visitors are expected for 2026.
The second edition of the Weibertreufest builds on the successful premiere in 2025. Around 3,000 visitors are expected over both days. Saturday is dedicated to rock, pop, and folk concerts, while Sunday combines an ecumenical service, castle tours, a historical reenactment, and a family program. 15 international food stalls ensure culinary diversity.
Free admission to all festival areas and concerts.
By train: Weinsberg station (S4 Heilbronn–Öhringen city train line), 10 min walk to the festival grounds. By car: A6 exit Weinsberg, parking available on Öhringer Straße, Hofbrunnenweg, and at the Traubenplatz underground car park.
Free admission.
Combine your festival visit with a hike to the Weibertreu Castle ruins (accessible year-round, free admission) — the view over the Württemberg vineyards is spectacular.
