About Schützenfest Beelen

From 4 to 6 July 2026, the Bürgerschützenverein Beelen e.V. celebrates its traditional Schützenfest. Beelen — a community of 6,500 inhabitants in the southeastern Münsterland (Warendorf district) — gathers on the second weekend of July for one of the most densely populated and traditional Schützenfeste in the Münsterland. With 1,400 members out of 6,500 inhabitants, the club is deeply rooted in the Beelen population — every second family is involved. 2026 marks the 127th edition: Saturday is Children's Schützenfest and Day of Guest Clubs, Sunday is Bird Shooting with the crowning of the Queen, Monday is Hampelmann Shooting and crowning. The parade, festival tent, and club venue become the heart of the village.

Beelen — A Shooting Heart in the Southern Münsterland

Beelen is located in the southeastern Münsterland, in the Warendorf district, between Warendorf, Beckum, and Oelde. With around 6,500 inhabitants, Beelen is a typical small town in the Münsterland — farms, village structures, vibrant club life. The core of Beelen's identity is its Schützenwesen (shooting tradition): the Bürgerschützenverein Beelen e.V. has 1,400 members — a participation rate that is rarely surpassed in Germany. Practically every family is involved.

When: 4–6 July 2026 (2nd weekend of July)

The Beelen Schützenfest traditionally takes place on the second weekend of July. In 2026, this is from Saturday, 4 July, to Monday, 6 July. The 127th edition combines proven traditional elements with special highlights: in 2026, the festival Saturday is the Day of Guest Clubs — a premiere in this anniversary year.

  • Afternoon: Children's Schützenfest with games, proclamation of the children's king, sweets
  • Early Evening: Reception of Guest Clubs from surrounding villages and shooting districts
  • Evening: Festival tent evening with live band, dancing, meeting of guest clubs

  • Evening: Coronation Ball and end of the festival in the tent

Gold, Silver, and Bronze — Free Beer Sponsorship

A special feature in Beelen is the open free beer sponsorship campaign: members and supporters can finance beer quantities for the festival tent. Three levels are offered:

  • Gold: 50 liters of beer for €550
  • Silver: 25 liters for €275
  • Bronze: 12.5 liters for €137.50

Sponsors are acknowledged by name in the festival tent. The free beer concept strengthens the club community and makes the tent a lively village gathering place across all generations.

Club Leadership and Tradition

The Bürgerschützenverein Beelen was founded in 1899 — the 127th edition will be celebrated in 2026. The club president is Maik Uekötter. Club address: Borgkamp 48, 48361 Beelen. The club is divided into several companies (Bürgerkompanie, Jägerkompanie), maintains marching bands, and shooting sports groups. In addition to the main festival, events throughout the year include the Sebastiani Celebration (January), shooting competitions, receptions, and social club evenings.

Münsterland Context

Beelen is part of the Münsterland Shooting District — one of the strongest regions for clubs in Germany. Westphalian shooting tradition, Catholic brotherhood structures, and rural club culture combine to form the dense shooting landscape that characterizes the Münsterland. Visitors to the Beelen Schützenfest experience this tradition in a particularly concentrated form: a small town where practically everyone is involved, from the royal couple to the board of the marching band.
