Colourful Mannheim Neighbourhood Festival with Choirs, Bouncy Castle and Police Motorcycle — Saturday, May 9, 2026
The Schönau neighbourhood is located in the north of Mannheim, is home to around 23,000 people, and is one of the most diverse districts in the city — with a high proportion of migrants, a vibrant club scene, and an active social sector. This is exactly what the annual neighbourhood festival "Day of Togetherness" celebrates, organised by the Schönau Youth Centre in cooperation with the Caritas Neighbourhood Office. In 2026, it will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 1 PM to 8 PM, around the youth centre at Lilienthalstraße 267.
The stage programme brings together all of Schönau's diversity: Children's choirs from kindergartens, the Schönaugrundschule school choir, local bands like Myfishband and Taste of Vibes with the closing concert. In addition, there will be karate demonstrations, hip-hop dancing, and performances by young Schönau artists.
Families are the heart of the festival. A large bouncy castle, a table football area, creative workshops with craft materials, and game stations will keep the children entertained all afternoon. Highlight: The police will be exhibiting one of their patrol motorcycles — children can climb on and have their photos taken. Particularly unusual: The bus stop for lines 50 and 51 will be closed from 11 AM to 7 PM and transformed into a play zone — the street as a playground, an unusual urbanistic gesture.
The culinary offerings are simple and hearty: Sausages, hot dogs, fries, waffles, coffee, and cake. Sales are handled by the participating clubs and initiatives. Behind the neighbourhood festival lies a clear social idea: Schönau shows that living together works across origins, ages, and religions — and celebrates this every year on the second weekend in May. Supported by the Schönau District Council, the district's democratically elected body.
The Schönau neighbourhood belongs to the university city of Mannheim in the Rhein-Neckar district, or rather the city district of Mannheim in Baden-Württemberg. The festival on May 9, 2026, fits into a rich Mannheim neighbourhood festival tradition that has grown significantly in recent years — districts showing their own identity, rather than just being a backdrop to the large Maimarkt city.
Seven hours of Schönau neighbourhood festival around the youth centre, with a stage programme, family activities, and an unusual idea: the bus stop in front of the youth centre will become a play zone for the children.
