Christmas Market in the Mannheim district of Waldhof — 30 exhibitors around the Caritas-Zentrum St. Franziskus, organized by Caritas and the parish community
The Adventsmarkt on Taunusplatz is the established kick-off event for the Advent season in Mannheim's Waldhof district. The venue is Taunusplatz around the Caritas-Zentrum St. Franziskus (Speckweg 17, 68305 Mannheim-Waldhof). The organizers are Caritas Mannheim and the St. Franziskus parish community — an established cooperation that has organized the market for years on the Saturday before the 1st Advent (or on the 1st Advent weekend). The 2026 edition takes place on November 21, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., making it the earliest Advent kick-off in Mannheim.
Around 30 exhibitors participate — similar to previous years. The offerings cover the typical Adventsmarkt mix: Christmas gifts (handmade items, jewelry, home accessories), Advent wreaths and floral decorations (fir branches, dried berries, ribbons), culinary stands with mulled wine, grilled sausages and steaks, waffles, jams, honey, and gingerbread. The adjacent Restaurant Landolin opens concurrently with café service (coffee, cake) and à la carte service — a welcome warm alternative in cold November weather.
What distinguishes the market from commercial Christmas markets is its integration into the district. Caritas and St. Franziskus have been present in northern Mannheim for decades — the Caritas-Zentrum on Taunusplatz houses a nursing home and counseling centers, and the St. Franziskus parish community is the Catholic center of Waldhof. The market finances community projects with stall fees and simultaneously makes Taunusplatz a winter meeting point for the district's residents. It is not a tourist spectacle, but a neighborhood festival with a craft character.
Waldhof is one of Mannheim's northern districts, characterized by its industrial heritage (Daimler, Boehringer) and a large residential population (around 23,000 inhabitants). The district has a distinct identity — the Kulturtage Waldhof (Waldhof Cultural Days) represent the year-round association structure, within whose calendar the Adventsmarkt is embedded as a seasonal highlight. Those who want to get to know Mannheim beyond the city blocks will find an authentic neighborhood cliché here.
The 2026 edition opens as early as November 21st, before the first Advent weekend — a deliberate early start to usher in the pre-Christmas season in the Waldhof district. The approximately 30 stalls around the Caritas-Zentrum offer a dense program: from handmade Christmas decorations and Advent wreaths in floral arrangements to warm refreshments with mulled wine, grilled sausages and steaks, and waffles. The Restaurant Landolin offers concurrent à la carte service with coffee, cake, and warm dishes.
Free admission. Mulled wine approx. €4–5, grilled sausages €3.50–€4.50, waffles €3–€4. Restaurant Landolin with regular menu (coffee €3, slice of cake €3.50, main courses €12–€18).
By tram (lines 3, 4, 4A — Mannheim-Waldhof) to the Waldhof or Speckweg stop. By car via the A 6 or A 67, exit Mannheim-Waldhof, then follow signs to Speckweg.
Saturday, November 21, 2026: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Free admission. Food and drinks available at the stalls.
