Christmas magic in the moated castle

The Mitwitz moated castle in the district of Kronach is one of the most beautiful castle complexes in the Frankenwald. On one Advent weekend, it transforms into the backdrop for the Mitwitzer Schlossweihnacht — a romantic Christmas market in and around the historic castle. The complex, surrounded by water and festively illuminated, creates a fairy-tale atmosphere that has made the market famous far beyond the region.

Arts and crafts and gastronomy

Around the castle courtyard and in the historic rooms, traders and craftspeople offer a diverse selection: handmade items, Christmas decorations, gift ideas, and regional specialties. The gastronomy ranges from mulled wine and punch to Franconian delicacies. The mix of historic architecture, light installations, and craftsmanship is what makes it so special.

Music, St. Nicholas, and children's program

An extensive music program with ensembles, choirs, and brass bands accompanies the Schlossweihnacht. St. Nicholas and the Christ Child stroll through the market, delighting children, supplemented by a wish tree, painting and crafting activities in the children's tent, and a Christmas rally with Willy the imp. The program also includes storytelling sessions, castle tours, and ecumenical services in the castle chapel.

The municipality of Mitwitz is located in the Upper Franconian Frankenwald, on the border with Thuringia. Forests, hiking trails, and the moated castle characterize the town. A visit to the Schlossweihnacht can be combined with a winter walk or an excursion into the Frankenwald.
