From Private Party to Underground Hub

Schlichtenfest began in 2007 as a private gathering and has been open to the public since 2015. It is organized by Schlichtenfest e.V., which deliberately keeps the open-air event small, familial, and approachable. This approach clearly distinguishes the festival from large commercial metal events, making it an insider tip in the southern German scene.

The Guggenberg Forest Clearing Venue

The venue is a forest clearing in Guggenberg, near Ottobeuren, a market town in the Unterallgäu district of Bavaria. For two days, a unique world of stage, campsite, and social interaction emerges in the middle of the Allgäu forest. Its location, away from the hustle and bustle, shapes the festival's special character.

Musical Profile

Musically, Schlichtenfest covers a broad spectrum of metal – from Black, Death, and Doom to Groove and Folk Metal, and Metalcore. Well-known names in the scene share the stage with underground and emerging bands, giving the lineup its own distinct flavor each year.

Family Atmosphere and Camping

Camping is part of the experience and included in the ticket; arrival is usually possible from Thursday evening. Regional beer specialties, hearty food, and a pool contribute to the relaxed, almost village-like atmosphere for which Schlichtenfest is known. The festival is considered exceptionally family-friendly.
