Summer Cinema in Sternschanzenpark
SchanzenKino Open Air has been one of Hamburg's summer rituals since the late 90s. In the middle of Sternschanzenpark, between the Wasserturm-Mövenpick and the Sternschanze, the team sets up the screen every year starting in mid-July. Six weeks of daily cinema under the open sky – a concept unique in Germany in this form.
Wireless Headphones Instead of Loudspeakers
The trademark: The sound doesn't come from loudspeakers, but via wireless headphones, which you can rent at the entrance for a €10 deposit (deposit fully refunded upon return). This keeps the park quiet for residents – and you can understand every word, even during the quietest dialogue. Those who bring their own headphones can plug them in directly via the 3.5mm jack.
Weatherproof and Uncomplicated
Screenings are held unless there's severe bad weather; in case of rain, there's a short break. Cancellations are announced on the website; in such cases, tickets are automatically refunded. Discounts are available for students, pupils, low-income earners, and severely disabled individuals (€1 off per ticket with proof, otherwise a €1 surcharge). Special events are excluded from discounts.
