Spring festival under blooming apple trees in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district
The small municipality of Sirksfelde in the Sandesneben-Nusse office cultivates a community orchard meadow at the former Kieskuhle – a piece of natural cultural landscape with traditional apple varieties, preserved by the village community. When the blossoms break open at the end of April, it's the occasion for the annual Obstblütenfest: young and old meet for a cozy get-together among the blooming trees.
The format is deliberately simple and accessible: the municipality's youth and culture committee organizes the event, provides drinks and barbecue food, and asks guests to bring salads or cakes to complete the buffet. Bringing your own dishes and cutlery is welcome – this keeps waste low and emphasizes the event's sustainable character.
For years, a regular program item has been the nest box building workshop for children: under guidance, the youngest guests can build their own nest boxes and take them home – a practical contribution to bird protection in the region's community orchards and, at the same time, a lively educational format. The municipality's community orchard meadow is located not far from nature reserves in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park.
Sirksfelde is located between Mölln and Reinfeld, in southeastern Schleswig-Holstein – one of the most wooded regions in the state. The Obstblütenfest is a classic example of the kind of village festival that has experienced a renaissance in Northern Germany in recent years: regionally rooted, ecologically conscious, with a clear focus on community rather than commerce.
After a one-year hiatus, the youth and culture committee of the municipality of Sirksfelde announces the revival of the Obstblütenfest: meeting point on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 3:00 PM among the apple trees of the community orchard meadow at the former Kieskuhle.
As in previous years, the municipality will provide drinks (soft drinks, beer) and barbecue food. Guests are asked to bring a salad or cake and pack their own dishes and cutlery – a deliberately sustainable concept. A nest box building workshop is planned again for children.
Meeting point at 3:00 PM at the community orchard meadow at the Kieskuhle. Communal grilling, drinks and refreshments, nest box building workshop for children. Open end – the festival winds down according to the mood.
