Eleven-day brass music festival in Ostallgäu for the 170th anniversary of Harmoniemusik Seeg (since 1856)
Bezirksmusikfeste are an institution in the Allgäu region: every few years, a music club from the Ostallgäu district hosts a multi-day festival where bands from the entire region come together. In 2026, this honor falls to Harmoniemusik Seeg e.V. — as the traditional village orchestra celebrates its 170th anniversary. Founded in 1856, it is one of the oldest music associations in the Allgäu.
The heart of a Bezirksmusikfest are the Wertungsspiele (competition performances): musical contests where participating bands present their program to a panel of experts. In Seeg, from May 15th to 17th, 2026, these competitions will take place in several categories — Concertante Wertung (concert performance), Traditionelle Wertung (traditional performance), and Stundenchor (hour choir). Additionally, on May 23rd, there will be a marching music competition. The participating associations come from the entire Ostallgäu district and beyond.
Around the competition performances, Harmoniemusik Seeg has organized a packed festival program. The opening on Ascension Day (May 14th) is the Vatertagsbierzelt (Father's Day beer tent) with a festival service, morning pint, and brass music party. This is followed by a Jugendtag (youth day) with youth bands and a colorful afternoon program. May 22nd is themed "Blasmusik aus Freundschaft" (Brass Music out of Friendship) with a star march to the Maypole at 7 PM. The highlight is the Festsonntag (Festival Sunday) on May 24th, featuring a festival service, a joint Stundenchor, and a grand Festumzug (parade) at 1:30 PM, followed by the announcement of the competition results.
Seeg is located in the southern district of Ostallgäu, about 15 km north of Füssen, at the edge of the Alps. The municipality belongs to the Allgäu region, one of the most traditional brass music landscapes in Bavaria. A visit to the Bezirksmusikfest can be ideally combined with a hike in the Alpine foothills, a trip to Füssen, or a visit to the royal castles.
The 36th Bezirksmusikfest in Seeg takes place from May 14th to 24th, 2026 — with an additional festive ceremony on April 25th, 2026, at 7:30 PM in the Seeg community center as a formal opening. The organizer is Harmoniemusik Seeg e.V., chaired by Andreas Gast.
The occasion is the 170th anniversary of the association, which has shaped Seeg's brass music tradition since 1856. Registration for participating associations runs until February 15th, 2026.
