A 300-year-old tradition
The Skapulierfest Trausnitz is one of the oldest religious festival traditions in the Oberpfalz. For around 300 years, the community of Trausnitz in the district of Schwandorf, Bavaria, has celebrated the patronal festival in honor of "Our Lady of Mount Carmel". The parish church and the streets of the town are the venue.
Torchlight procession and church service
The festival begins on Saturday evening at 8:30 PM with a Marian devotion, followed by an impressive torchlight procession through the streets of Trausnitz – the emotional highlight of the festival. On Sunday at 9 AM, the festive church service takes place, dedicated to the deceased members of the fraternity.
Festival operations and children's festival
On both days, there are festival activities in the festival hall, with the band "Bayrisch Blech" on Saturday evening. On Sunday afternoon, the parents' council of the primary school and the youth red cross invite you to the large children's festival; there is coffee and cake for the parents.
Organizers and significance
The organizers are the fraternity "Our Lady of Mount Carmel", the Marian Congregations, and local associations. The Skapulierfest is much more than a church festival: it is a central point of reference for village identity and a living example of practiced customs in Eastern Bavaria.
