Fire brigade anniversary with parade, festival tent, and traditions in the northern Upper Palatinate
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Teunz was founded in 1876 – a few years after the founding of the German Empire. 150 years later, the brigade is still an essential part of the village's safety and club structure. 32 active firefighters, plus honorary members and a vibrant youth section, characterize today's FFW Teunz. The age range of active members from 16 to 33 years shows: Teunz has an unusually young brigade – an important indicator of its vitality.
The festival weekend spans four days and follows the classic structure of Bavarian fire brigade anniversaries: Festival evening on Friday with festival tent opening, ceremony and gala evening on Saturday, large parade on Sunday with friendly brigades and clubs from the Schwandorf district, and the festival conclusion on Monday with a morning pint and family program. Festival director is Adolf Hammer, club chairman Christian Kühner.
The focus of every fire brigade anniversary is the search for a godfather brigade and an honorary patron. This was driven forward in spring 2026. The parades at Bavarian fire brigade anniversaries typically attract 30-50 friendly brigades and clubs – traditional costume groups, shooting clubs, veterans' and soldiers' associations, brass bands. This tradition is also maintained in Teunz.
Teunz is a municipality in the Schwandorf district in the northern Upper Palatinate, located between Schwandorf and the Czech border. The region is predominantly Catholic, with a vibrant club life and deeply rooted traditions. The northern Upper Palatinate is known for its strong connection to fire brigades – the Schwandorf District Fire Brigade Association coordinates anniversaries and festivals regionally.
The 150th anniversary festival of the FFW Teunz opens on Friday, May 29th, 2026, and closes on Whit Monday, June 1st, 2026. Four days of festivities will celebrate the club anniversary.
The program was developed jointly by festival director Adolf Hammer and club chairman Christian Kühner. The active phase began in spring 2026 with the search for a godfather brigade and an honorary patron, as well as invitations to friendly brigades from the Schwandorf district and the Upper Palatinate.
