The District Shooting Day – Annual Festival of Upper Palatinate Marksmanship
The Upper Palatinate Delegate Day – also known as the District Shooting Day – is the annual top event of the Upper Palatinate Shooting District within the Bavarian Sports Shooters Association (BSSB). Here, delegates from all Upper Palatinate shooting districts come together to report on the past shooting year, set the program for the coming year, and proclaim the district kings. In 2026, the 76th Delegate Day will be hosted in Tännesberg – the host role rotates annually among the districts.
Tännesberg as Host 2026
The market town of Tännesberg is located in the Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab district in the northern Upper Palatinate and is one of the region's most important shooting strongholds. The venue for the 2026 Delegate Day is the Restaurant Binnerschreiner at Kaufnitzweg 2. The organization is the responsibility of the 1st District Shooting Master Harald Frischholz (Tel. 09607 91219, [email protected]).
King Proclamation on the Eve
Already on Saturday evening, April 18, 2026, the traditional Oberpfälzer Abend will take place with the festive King Proclamation. Here, the district kings and queens from the past year's competitions in the air rifle, air pistol, and small-bore rifle disciplines will be publicly crowned – the social highlight of the shooting year in the Upper Palatinate.
The Delegate Day on Sunday
On Sunday, April 19, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM, the actual business part follows: reports from the district board, financial report, reports from discipline and subject area managers, resolutions, elections, and honors. The Delegate Day is the highest decision-making body of the shooting district and significantly influences the Upper Palatinate shooters' funding lines, youth work, and elite sports engagement.
Embedded in the 2026 Shooting Year
The District Shooting Day in 2026 is marked by several parallel events: In 2026, the Vohenstrauß Shooting Border District celebrates its 100th anniversary and hosts the district and regional anniversary shooting competition, which runs until May 2026. District Shooting Master Harald Frischholz and District Shooting Master Johann Kellner opened the anniversary competition in early April. Thus, 2026 is a special year for the Upper Palatinate shooters.
Marksmanship in Bavaria
Marksmanship is deeply rooted in Bavaria – and especially in the Upper Palatinate. Shooting clubs are often the oldest clubs in their towns, with roots dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The King Proclamation, the festival badge, the traditional attire, and the historical competitions together form a vibrant cultural heritage, which the Upper Palatinate District within the BSSB officially represents.
