19th Open-Air Festival on the Tännesberg sports grounds with Spider Murphy Gang as headliner
In recent years, the Oberpfalzfestival in Tännesberg has developed into one of the most popular open-air festivals in the northern Oberpfalz. The venue is the sports grounds on Pfreimder Straße — a classic club sports ground that transforms into a stage for several thousand spectators once a year. 2026 will be the 19th edition.
The headliner for 2026 is the Spider Murphy Gang — arguably the most famous Bavarian rock band. Hits like „Skandal im Sperrbezirk“, „Schickeria“, or „Bus durch die City“ have shaped German music history for decades. In 2026, the band celebrates its 49th stage anniversary. They have already performed successfully in Tännesberg in 2015, 2018, and 2023 — their return in 2026 is an anticipated reunion.
In addition to the Spider Murphy Gang, three other bands will take the stage, appealing to very different generations:
The open-air character, the compact stage setup, and the sports ground setting lend the festival a special atmosphere — close to the artists, without the mega-festival distance. Children under 14 have free admission, making the Oberpfalzfestival one of the few large concerts suitable for families. Stalls offer Oberpfalz specialties, snack variations, and drinks.
Tännesberg is a traditional market town in the district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, in the heart of the Oberpfälzer Wald, about 30 km east of Weiden in der Oberpfalz. The region is characterized by forests, moors, and granite rocks — and is one of the quietest corners of Bavaria. A festival visit can be combined with a hike in the Oberpfälzer Wald Nature Park or a day trip to Tirschenreuth.
The 19th Oberpfalzfestival will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the sports grounds on Pfreimder Straße 15 in Tännesberg. Doors open at 4 PM, festival starts at 5 PM.
