Kirchweih in the Spessart
The Kirchweih Weibersbrunn is part of the dense Kirchweih (harvest festival) calendar in the Lower Franconian Spessart region. Weibersbrunn is a community of around 2,000 inhabitants in the Aschaffenburg district, right in the middle of one of Germany's largest contiguous oak and beech forests. The venue for the Kirchweih is the Weibersbrunn multi-purpose hall – the central festival hall of the community.
Spessart Traditions
The Kirchweih follows the classic Lower Franconian format: catering in the multi-purpose hall with Spessart Bratwurst (grilled sausage), Schäuferla (pork shoulder), Krapfen (doughnuts), and regional specialties, accompanied by beer from the surrounding breweries of the Aschaffenburg region. A brass band or regional bands provide the entertainment for the festival evening. The community actively involves its clubs – fire brigade, sports club, traditional costume groups.
Weibersbrunn and the Glassmaking Tradition
Weibersbrunn has been a hub in the Spessart for centuries: founded as a glassmaking settlement, later a forestry and tourism town, and today a starting point for hikes through the Spessart.
