The Lower Rhine's largest wine festival — over 40 vintners from all German wine regions on Königstraße
The Duisburg Wine Festival is the largest wine festival in the Lower Rhine region and one of the most important city center events in Duisburg's summer calendar. From July 30 to August 2, 2026, Königstraße — the central pedestrian zone of Duisburg's city center between the main train station and the town hall — will transform into an open wine mile with tables, standing bars, stages, and pavilions. The organizer is the municipal Duisburg Kontor GmbH, which is also responsible for other major events such as the Christmas market.
The festival's ambition is national: over 40 wineries from almost all 13 German wine regions present their wines. Among them are classic Riesling wineries from the Mosel and Rheingau, Spätburgunder producers from the Pfalz and Kaiserstuhl, Silvaner vintners from Franken, Weißburgunder specialists from Baden, and even Müller-Thurgau producers from Saxony. In total, more than 600 different types of wine are available for tasting — from a glass of sparkling wine to start, through ripe late harvests to ice wines and sparkling wines. If you want a cross-section of German wine country in four days, Königstraße is the place to be.
Instead of a closed-off festival area, the Duisburg Wine Festival relies on the open city center: Königstraße remains accessible as a pedestrian zone, with vintner pavilions lining the street, interspersed with tables, benches, and high tables for lingering. This setup makes the festival easily accessible: if you go to a café on Königstraße with friends in the evening, you'll almost inevitably walk through the wine festival and get drawn in. Free admission — you only pay for what you drink and eat.
Bands and acoustic acts play between the pavilions — from jazz trios to singers of wine songs. The program will be announced on the official website in the summer of 2026.
In addition to the vintners, there are gastronomy stands offering cheese platters, tarte flambée, pretzels, regional specialties, and vegetarian options. Those who want a full wine dinner will be satisfied throughout the pavilion tour and will find the perfect accompaniment to every drop.
Duisburg is not located in a classic wine-growing region — which is precisely why the wine festival has become a flagship event for the region. It attracts visitors from the entire Ruhr area, the Lower Rhine, and the western Münsterland. With approximately 100,000 visitors in four days (2025), it is one of the major German wine festival formats outside the wine-growing regions themselves.
The Duisburg Wine Festival 2026 brings the German wine country to Duisburg's city center. Four days of pavilion tours from Mosel Riesling to Pfalz Spätburgunder to Saxony Müller-Thurgau, with bands and acoustic acts between the stands.
